Vraag aan de kunstenaar: Luca Azzurro

De afgelopen maanden had ik het genoegen om in de Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde de schilderijen te zien van een zeer jonge Italiaanse kunstenaar, Luca Azzurro (klas ’88), een architect en reclamegraficus uit Lombardije, die ik al enige tijd nauwlettend in de gaten hield vanwege zijn artistieke poëtica vol expressionisme en symboliek. Luca Azzurro evolueert voortdurend in zijn experimenten (dankzij zijn jonge leeftijd), en de cyclus in de galerie en de werken die hier in het interview worden voorgesteld tonen aan waarom zijn kunst steeds meer internationale verzamelaars begint aan te trekken (tot op heden bevinden zijn werken zich in Italiaanse, Canadese en Russische collecties). Zijn poëtica is gebaseerd op een expressionistische en onnatuurlijke kleur die herinnert aan de stijl van de Fauves, Pollock en Sam Francis: deze kleur, een lofzang op het leven, geeft een prominente plaats aan de lichtmasten, een symbool van hedendaagsheid, technologische innovatie en snelheid, zonder welke de mens niet zou zijn waar hij nu is.

Maar laten we de artiest nu het woord geven:

Jij bent een zeer jonge kunstenaar: wat wilt jij communiceren met jouw artistieke poëzie?

Schilderen is voor mij altijd het medium geweest om mijn gevoelens uit te drukken, zowel positief als negatief.

Het schilderen is voor mij in een parallelle wereld terechtgekomen, mijn favoriete wereld natuurlijk, waar ik me comfortabel en vrij voel om mijn gevoelens uit te drukken zoals ik dat wil.

In de loop der jaren is mijn boodschap letterlijk veranderd.

Vandaag voel ik de behoefte om te vertegenwoordigen, om waarde te geven aan wat mensen als vanzelfsprekend beschouwen.

Wat is kleur voor jou? Hoe past het in je beeldidee?

Kleur is voor mij het leven. Je kunt alles overbrengen, allerlei gevoelens, situaties, emoties.

We kunnen ook nuances aanbrengen en dat maakt kleur nog belangrijker en karakteristieker voor wat ik wil overbrengen.

Waarom de keuze van lichtmasten als de echte protagonisten van deze picturale cyclus die ik het genoegen heb in de galerie te hebben?

Ik wilde iets benadrukken dat mensen niet zien, maar niet omdat ze onzichtbaar zijn, integendeel, ze zijn maar al te zichtbaar door hun majesteit.

Als we nadenken over hun functie, hebben ze betekenis gegeven aan het menselijk leven en de evolutie daarvan. Dankzij elektriciteit heeft de mens vandaag grote dingen kunnen bereiken.

We worden omringd door deze structuren, maar we hechten er geen belang aan, zoals vaak het geval is in deze maatschappij die de neiging heeft je te overschaduwen, mensen en dingen te onderwaarderen die eigenlijk het middelpunt van ons leven zijn.

Wil jij het Nederlandse publiek uitleggen waarom jouw behangpapier op zo’n bijzondere manier gebruikt bij die geschriften? Wat geeft het je meer dan alleen canvas?

Ik wilde een achtergrond creëren die ons zou kunnen herinneren aan alles wat door deze structuren kan gaan, wind, regen, vogels… iets dat ons zou kunnen herinneren aan beweging.

Vandaar de keuze voor doorlopend cursief schrift.

Je bent zo jong en hebt duizend andere ideeën in je hoofd. Kun je ons een voorproefje geven?

Schilders zijn soms onvoorspelbaar, dus ik hoop je snel te verrassen.

For the few months I have had the pleasure of having at the Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde the paintings of a very young Italian artist, Luca Azzurro (class of ’88), an architect and advertising graphic designer from Lombardy, whom I had been keeping a close eye on for some time for his artistic poetics full of expressionism and symbolism. Luca Azzurro is constantly evolving in his experiments (thanks to his young age), and the cycle in the gallery and the works presented here in the interview show why his art is starting to attract more and more international collectors (to date, his works are in Italian, Canadian and Russian collections). His poetics is based on an expressionistic and unnatural colour that recalls the style of the Fauves, Pollock and Sam Francis: this colour, a hymn to life, gives prominence to the light poles, a symbol of contemporaneity, technological innovation and speed, without which man would not be where he is at the moment.

But let us now give the artist the woords:

You are a very young artist: what do you want to communicate with your artistic poetics?

Painting has always been the medium for me to express my feelings, both positive and negative.

Painting for me has entered a parallel world, my favourite world of course, where I feel comfortable and free to express my feelings as I wish.

Over the years my message has literally changed.

Today I feel the need to represent, to give value to what people take for granted.

What is colour for you? How does it fit into your pictorial idea?

Colour for me is life. You can convey everything, all kinds of feelings, situations, emotions.

We can also create nuances and that makes colour even more important and characteristic for what I want to convey.

Why the choice of light poles as the real protagonists of this pictorial cycle that I have the pleasure of having in the gallery?

I wanted to highlight something that people do not see, but not because they are invisible, on the contrary, they are all too visible due to their majesty.

If we think about their function, they have given meaning to human life and its evolution. Thanks to electricity, man has been able to achieve great things today.

We are surrounded by these structures but we don’t give them importance, as is often the case in this society that tends to overshadow you, to undervalue people and things that are actually the focus of our lives.

Would you explain to the Dutch public why you use wallpaper in such a special way with those writings? What does it give you more than just canvas?

I wanted to create a background that could remind us, everything that can pass through these structures, winds, rain, birds… something that could remind us of movement.

Hence the choice of continuous cursive writing.

You are so young and have a thousand other ideas in your head: can you give us a preview?

Painters are unpredictable sometimes, so I hope to surprise you soon.

Domanda all’artista: Luca Azzurro

Da pochi mesi ho il piacere di avere alla Manzoni Kunst Galerie di Oosterwolde le opere pittoriche di un giovanissimo artista italiano, Luca Azzurro (classe ’88), architetto e grafico pubblicitario lombardo che tenevo sotto stretta sorveglianza da un po’ di tempo per la sua poetica artistica carica di espressionismo e di simbolismo. Luca Azzurro è in continua evoluzione per le sue sperimentazioni (grazie alla sua giovane età) ed il ciclo presente in galleria e le opere qui proposte nell’intervista mostrano il perché la sua arte inizia a interessare sempre di più i collezionisti internazionali (ad oggi le sue opere sono in collezioni italiane, canadesi e russe). La sua poetica si fonda su un colore espressionistico ed innaturale che richiama lo stile dei Fauve, di Pollock e di Sam Francis: questo colore, inno alla vita, dà rilievo ai pali della luce, simbolo di contemporaneità, innovazione tecnologica e velocità, senza i quali l’uomo non sarebbe dove è in questo momento.

Ma diamo ora la parola all’artista:

Sei un artista molto giovane: cosa vuoi comunicare con la tua poetica artistica?

Da sempre la pittura è stata per me il mezzo con cui ho espresso i miei sentimenti, positivi e negativi.

Dipingere per me è entrato in un mondo parallelo, il mio mondo preferito naturalmente, dove mi sento a mio agio, dove mi sento bene e libero di esprimere i miei sentimenti come voglio.

Nel corso degli anni il mio messaggio è cambiato letteralmente.

Oggi sento il bisogno di rappresentare, dare valore a ciò che le persone danno per scontato.

Cos’è per te il colore? Come si innesta nella tua idea pittorica?

Il colore per me è vita. Si può trasmettere tutto, ogni tipo di sentimento, situazione, emozione.

Abbiamo anche la possibilità di creare sfumature e ciò rende il colore ancora più importante e caratteristico per ciò che voglio trasmettere.

Come mai la scelta dei pali della luce come veri e propri protagonisti di questo ciclo pittorico che ho il piacere di avere in galleria?

Ho voluto mettere in risalto qualcosa che le persone non vedono, ma non perché sono invisibili, al contrario, sono fin troppo visibili grazie alla loro maestosità.

Se pensiamo alla loro funzione, hanno dato un senso alla vita umana e alla sua evoluzione. Grazie all’elettricità oggi l’uomo ha potuto realizzare grandi cose.

Siamo circondati da queste strutture ma, non ne diamo importanza, come spesso accade in questa società che ti tende a mettere in ombra, a sottovalutare persone e cose che in realtà sono il fulcro della nostra vita.

Spiegheresti al pubblico olandese come mai l’uso della carta da parati così particolare con quelle scritte? Cosa ti dona in più rispetto alla semplice tela?

Ho voluto creare uno sfondo che potesse ricordare, tutto ciò che può attraversare queste strutture, venti, piogge, uccelli.. qualcosa che potesse ricordare il movimento.

Ecco perché la scelta di continue scritte in corsivo.

Sei tanto giovane e avrai altre mille idee in testa: puoi svelarci qualcosa in anteprima?

I pittori sono imprevedibili, a volte, perciò spero di potervi stupire al più presto.

Zaterdag 28 augustus 2021 bent u allen uitgenodigd voor de tentoonstelling Kunst in de Tuin in de Manzoni Kunst Galerie, van 11.00 tot 17.00 uur! De galerie wordt officieel geopend en we vieren de kunstenaars die deelnemen aan het project Hedendaagse Italiaanse Kunst in Nederland en de nieuwe binnenkomer Rob Koedijk, een Nederlandse kunstenaar uit Assen die met enthousiasme het idee heeft aanvaard om de twee artistieke culturen met elkaar in dialoog te brengen.
Wij wachten op u om een koffie, een thee of een glas wijn te drinken en wat over kunst te praten!
