Al in de 15e eeuw hadden de Nederlandse en Italiaanse kunst intense en interessante culturele uitwisselingen die het verloop van hun artistieke evolutie veranderden. Vandaag hebben hedendaagse Italiaanse kunst en hedendaagse Nederlandse kunst de grote kans om opnieuw met elkaar in dialoog te gaan in deze groepstentoonstelling die wordt gerealiseerd door de DSG Galerie in Assen in samenwerking met de Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde. Een doelgerichte en open dialoog waarin twee eeuwenoude culturen mijlpalen in de ontwikkeling van hun cultureel-artistieke geschiedenis kunnen vergelijken en elkaar kunnen inspireren voor toekomstige poëtica. Een kans dus om de basis te leggen voor een moderne wederzijdse kennis en begrip waarin de kunst, voorbij de verscheidenheid van haar stilistische en thematische manifestaties, een nieuwe verenigde visie op de hedendaagse samenleving toont die de menselijke wereld met de goddelijke wereld wil bemiddelen.

Wat is dan het uiteindelijke doel van Kunst en de dialoog tussen deze twee culturen? Het doel van KUNST is de waarnemer de smaak van persoonlijke ontdekking bij te brengen en zijn eigen maatstaf te ontwikkelen. Dat betekent zien, empathisch voelen, vrij denken en handelen. Elke kunstenaar heeft een boodschap over te brengen en leert ons door zijn of haar werken vragen te stellen om het heden te begrijpen en ons eigen perspectief te verruimen, zelfs tot het punt dat het een gevoel van transcendentie stimuleert. Hoe meer KUNST de toeschouwer ertoe brengt zichzelf vragen te stellen, hoe meer hij een nieuw mens zal worden omdat hij in staat zal zijn kritisch te denken zonder de massa te volgen, wat resulteert in een aangenaam gevoel van persoonlijke groei en innerlijke rijkdom.

KUNST spreekt voor zich en is een levensoefening, een levensproject dat de mens onsterfelijkheid geeft en de menselijke wil toont om tot transcendentie te komen. Om de werken op hun best waar te nemen, heeft de toeschouwer een kwalitatieve tijd nodig om zijn eigen mening te vormen, zoals Kandinsky (1866 – 1944) zei “kunst gaat voorbij de grenzen waarin de tijd haar zou willen samenpersen en geeft de inhoud van de toekomst aan”: voorbij de oppervlakkigheid en onoplettendheid als gevolg van het hedendaagse massamediale bombardement, leert de verlengde tijd van bloei de mens de werken te voelen als een kostbaar geschenk. Uitgaande van de zintuiglijke gegevens en via emoties, kritische analyse en oriëntatie van acties, leert de kunst ons bezit te nemen van onze tijd om deze in het diepste innerlijk te ontmoeten.

De artistieke dialoog die hier op de tentoonstelling wordt ontwikkeld, is dus van fundamenteel belang voor de ontwikkeling van relaties tussen mensen, landen en culturen: hij bevordert de persoonlijke groei omdat hij vrijheid en het vermogen om zich uit te drukken vereist, evenals de bereidheid en het vermogen om naar anderen te luisteren en hen te leren kennen.

Dialogo tra due culture: Italia e la DSG

Già a partire dal XV secolo l’arte olandese e l’arte italiana intrattennero scambi culturali intensi ed interessanti che cambiarono il corso della loro evoluzione artistica. Oggi l’arte contemporanea italiana e l’arte contemporanea olandese hanno la grande opportunità di dialogare nuovamente tra loro in questa mostra collettiva realizzata dalla DSG Galerie di Assen in collaborazione con la Manzoni Kunst Galerie di Oosterwolde. Un dialogo propositivo ed aperto in cui due culture secolari potranno confrontare i traguardi dell’evoluzione della propria storia culturale-artistica nonché ispirarsi a vicenda per future poetiche. Un’occasione quindi per gettare le basi per una moderna conoscenza e comprensione reciproca in cui, al di là della varietà delle sue manifestazioni stilistiche e tematiche, l’arte mostra una nuova visione unitaria della società contemporanea che cerca di mediare il mondo umano con il mondo divino.

Qual è allora lo scopo ultimo dell’Arte ed il dialogo tra queste due culture? L’ARTE ha il fine di educare l’osservatore al gusto della scoperta personale e di sviluppare il proprio metro di valutazione. Il che significa vedere, sentire empaticamente, pensare ed agire in modo libero. Ogni artista ha un messaggio da comunicare e grazie alle sue opere insegna a porsi delle domande per capire il presente e per ampliare una propria prospettiva, sino a stimolare il senso della trascendenza. Più l’ARTE porterà l’osservatore a farsi delle domande e più questo diventerà una persona nuova in quanto saprà pensare criticamente senza seguire le masse, ottenendo una piacevole sensazione di crescita personale e ricchezza interiore.

L’ARTE parla da sola ed è un esercizio di vita, un progetto di vita che dà immortalità all’uomo e mostra la volontà umana di raggiungere la trascendenza. Per percepire al meglio le opere, l’osservatore ha bisogno di un tempo qualitativamente valido per creare una propria opinione, come disse Kandinskij (1866 – 1944) “l’arte oltrepassa i limiti nei quali il tempo vorrebbe comprimerla ed indica il contenuto del futuro”: andando oltre la superficialità e la disattenzione dovuta al bombardamento massmediatico contemporaneo, il tempo prolungato della fruizione insegna alle persone a sentire le opere come dono prezioso. Partendo dal dato sensoriale e passando attraverso le emozioni, l’analisi critica e l’orientamento delle azioni, l’arte ci insegna a prendere possesso del nostro tempo per incontrarla nell’interiorità più profonda.

Il dialogo artistico sviluppato qui alla mostra è quindi fondamentale per lo sviluppo delle relazioni tra persone, dei paesi delle culture: favorisce la crescita personale perché richiede libertà e abilità nell’esprimere sé stessi, così come volontà e capacità di ascoltare e conoscere gli altri.

Dialogue between two cultures: Italy and the DSG

As early as the 15th century, Dutch and Italian art had intense and interesting cultural exchanges that changed the course of their artistic evolution. Today, contemporary Italian art and contemporary Dutch art have the great opportunity to dialogue with each other again in this group exhibition realised by the DSG Galerie in Assen in collaboration with the Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde. A purposeful and open dialogue in which two centuries-old cultures will be able to compare milestones in the evolution of their cultural-artistic history as well as inspire each other for future poetics. An opportunity, therefore, to lay the foundations for modern mutual knowledge and understanding in which, beyond the variety of its stylistic and thematic manifestations, art displays a new unified vision of contemporary society that seeks to mediate the human world with the divine world.

What then is the ultimate purpose of Art and the dialogue between these two cultures? The purpose of ART is to educate the observer in the taste for personal discovery and to develop his own yardstick. Which means seeing, feeling empathically, thinking and acting freely. Every artist has a message to communicate and through his or her works teaches us to ask questions in order to understand the present and to broaden our own perspective, even to the point of stimulating a sense of transcendence. The more ART will lead the observer to ask himself questions, the more he will become a new person as he will be able to think critically without following the masses, resulting in a pleasant feeling of personal growth and inner richness.

ART speaks for itself and is an exercise in life, a life project that gives man immortality and shows the human will to achieve transcendence. In order to perceive the works at their best, the observer needs a qualitative time to create his own opinion, as Kandinsky (1866 – 1944) said “art goes beyond the limits in which time would like to compress it and indicates the content of the future”: going beyond the superficiality and inattention due to the contemporary mass media bombardment, the prolonged time of fruition teaches people to feel the works as a precious gift. Starting from the sensory datum and passing through emotions, critical analysis and orientation of actions, art teaches us to take possession of our time in order to meet it in the deepest interiority.

The artistic dialogue developed here at the exhibition is therefore fundamental for the development of relationships between people, countries and cultures: it promotes personal growth because it requires freedom and the ability to express oneself, as well as a willingness and ability to listen to and get to know others.

Vraag aan de kunstenaar: Luca Azzurro

De afgelopen maanden had ik het genoegen om in de Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde de schilderijen te zien van een zeer jonge Italiaanse kunstenaar, Luca Azzurro (klas ’88), een architect en reclamegraficus uit Lombardije, die ik al enige tijd nauwlettend in de gaten hield vanwege zijn artistieke poëtica vol expressionisme en symboliek. Luca Azzurro evolueert voortdurend in zijn experimenten (dankzij zijn jonge leeftijd), en de cyclus in de galerie en de werken die hier in het interview worden voorgesteld tonen aan waarom zijn kunst steeds meer internationale verzamelaars begint aan te trekken (tot op heden bevinden zijn werken zich in Italiaanse, Canadese en Russische collecties). Zijn poëtica is gebaseerd op een expressionistische en onnatuurlijke kleur die herinnert aan de stijl van de Fauves, Pollock en Sam Francis: deze kleur, een lofzang op het leven, geeft een prominente plaats aan de lichtmasten, een symbool van hedendaagsheid, technologische innovatie en snelheid, zonder welke de mens niet zou zijn waar hij nu is.

Maar laten we de artiest nu het woord geven:

Jij bent een zeer jonge kunstenaar: wat wilt jij communiceren met jouw artistieke poëzie?

Schilderen is voor mij altijd het medium geweest om mijn gevoelens uit te drukken, zowel positief als negatief.

Het schilderen is voor mij in een parallelle wereld terechtgekomen, mijn favoriete wereld natuurlijk, waar ik me comfortabel en vrij voel om mijn gevoelens uit te drukken zoals ik dat wil.

In de loop der jaren is mijn boodschap letterlijk veranderd.

Vandaag voel ik de behoefte om te vertegenwoordigen, om waarde te geven aan wat mensen als vanzelfsprekend beschouwen.

Wat is kleur voor jou? Hoe past het in je beeldidee?

Kleur is voor mij het leven. Je kunt alles overbrengen, allerlei gevoelens, situaties, emoties.

We kunnen ook nuances aanbrengen en dat maakt kleur nog belangrijker en karakteristieker voor wat ik wil overbrengen.

Waarom de keuze van lichtmasten als de echte protagonisten van deze picturale cyclus die ik het genoegen heb in de galerie te hebben?

Ik wilde iets benadrukken dat mensen niet zien, maar niet omdat ze onzichtbaar zijn, integendeel, ze zijn maar al te zichtbaar door hun majesteit.

Als we nadenken over hun functie, hebben ze betekenis gegeven aan het menselijk leven en de evolutie daarvan. Dankzij elektriciteit heeft de mens vandaag grote dingen kunnen bereiken.

We worden omringd door deze structuren, maar we hechten er geen belang aan, zoals vaak het geval is in deze maatschappij die de neiging heeft je te overschaduwen, mensen en dingen te onderwaarderen die eigenlijk het middelpunt van ons leven zijn.

Wil jij het Nederlandse publiek uitleggen waarom jouw behangpapier op zo’n bijzondere manier gebruikt bij die geschriften? Wat geeft het je meer dan alleen canvas?

Ik wilde een achtergrond creëren die ons zou kunnen herinneren aan alles wat door deze structuren kan gaan, wind, regen, vogels… iets dat ons zou kunnen herinneren aan beweging.

Vandaar de keuze voor doorlopend cursief schrift.

Je bent zo jong en hebt duizend andere ideeën in je hoofd. Kun je ons een voorproefje geven?

Schilders zijn soms onvoorspelbaar, dus ik hoop je snel te verrassen.

For the few months I have had the pleasure of having at the Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde the paintings of a very young Italian artist, Luca Azzurro (class of ’88), an architect and advertising graphic designer from Lombardy, whom I had been keeping a close eye on for some time for his artistic poetics full of expressionism and symbolism. Luca Azzurro is constantly evolving in his experiments (thanks to his young age), and the cycle in the gallery and the works presented here in the interview show why his art is starting to attract more and more international collectors (to date, his works are in Italian, Canadian and Russian collections). His poetics is based on an expressionistic and unnatural colour that recalls the style of the Fauves, Pollock and Sam Francis: this colour, a hymn to life, gives prominence to the light poles, a symbol of contemporaneity, technological innovation and speed, without which man would not be where he is at the moment.

But let us now give the artist the woords:

You are a very young artist: what do you want to communicate with your artistic poetics?

Painting has always been the medium for me to express my feelings, both positive and negative.

Painting for me has entered a parallel world, my favourite world of course, where I feel comfortable and free to express my feelings as I wish.

Over the years my message has literally changed.

Today I feel the need to represent, to give value to what people take for granted.

What is colour for you? How does it fit into your pictorial idea?

Colour for me is life. You can convey everything, all kinds of feelings, situations, emotions.

We can also create nuances and that makes colour even more important and characteristic for what I want to convey.

Why the choice of light poles as the real protagonists of this pictorial cycle that I have the pleasure of having in the gallery?

I wanted to highlight something that people do not see, but not because they are invisible, on the contrary, they are all too visible due to their majesty.

If we think about their function, they have given meaning to human life and its evolution. Thanks to electricity, man has been able to achieve great things today.

We are surrounded by these structures but we don’t give them importance, as is often the case in this society that tends to overshadow you, to undervalue people and things that are actually the focus of our lives.

Would you explain to the Dutch public why you use wallpaper in such a special way with those writings? What does it give you more than just canvas?

I wanted to create a background that could remind us, everything that can pass through these structures, winds, rain, birds… something that could remind us of movement.

Hence the choice of continuous cursive writing.

You are so young and have a thousand other ideas in your head: can you give us a preview?

Painters are unpredictable sometimes, so I hope to surprise you soon.

Da pochi mesi ho il piacere di avere alla Manzoni Kunst Galerie di Oosterwolde le opere pittoriche di un giovanissimo artista italiano, Luca Azzurro (classe ’88), architetto e grafico pubblicitario lombardo che tenevo sotto stretta sorveglianza da un po’ di tempo per la sua poetica artistica carica di espressionismo e di simbolismo. Luca Azzurro è in continua evoluzione per le sue sperimentazioni (grazie alla sua giovane età) ed il ciclo presente in galleria e le opere qui proposte nell’intervista mostrano il perché la sua arte inizia a interessare sempre di più i collezionisti internazionali (ad oggi le sue opere sono in collezioni italiane, canadesi e russe). La sua poetica si fonda su un colore espressionistico ed innaturale che richiama lo stile dei Fauve, di Pollock e di Sam Francis: questo colore, inno alla vita, dà rilievo ai pali della luce, simbolo di contemporaneità, innovazione tecnologica e velocità, senza i quali l’uomo non sarebbe dove è in questo momento.

Ma diamo ora la parola all’artista:

Sei un artista molto giovane: cosa vuoi comunicare con la tua poetica artistica?

Da sempre la pittura è stata per me il mezzo con cui ho espresso i miei sentimenti, positivi e negativi.

Dipingere per me è entrato in un mondo parallelo, il mio mondo preferito naturalmente, dove mi sento a mio agio, dove mi sento bene e libero di esprimere i miei sentimenti come voglio.

Nel corso degli anni il mio messaggio è cambiato letteralmente.

Oggi sento il bisogno di rappresentare, dare valore a ciò che le persone danno per scontato.

Cos’è per te il colore? Come si innesta nella tua idea pittorica?

Il colore per me è vita. Si può trasmettere tutto, ogni tipo di sentimento, situazione, emozione.

Abbiamo anche la possibilità di creare sfumature e ciò rende il colore ancora più importante e caratteristico per ciò che voglio trasmettere.

Come mai la scelta dei pali della luce come veri e propri protagonisti di questo ciclo pittorico che ho il piacere di avere in galleria?

Ho voluto mettere in risalto qualcosa che le persone non vedono, ma non perché sono invisibili, al contrario, sono fin troppo visibili grazie alla loro maestosità.

Se pensiamo alla loro funzione, hanno dato un senso alla vita umana e alla sua evoluzione. Grazie all’elettricità oggi l’uomo ha potuto realizzare grandi cose.

Siamo circondati da queste strutture ma, non ne diamo importanza, come spesso accade in questa società che ti tende a mettere in ombra, a sottovalutare persone e cose che in realtà sono il fulcro della nostra vita.

Spiegheresti al pubblico olandese come mai l’uso della carta da parati così particolare con quelle scritte? Cosa ti dona in più rispetto alla semplice tela?

Ho voluto creare uno sfondo che potesse ricordare, tutto ciò che può attraversare queste strutture, venti, piogge, uccelli.. qualcosa che potesse ricordare il movimento.

Ecco perché la scelta di continue scritte in corsivo.

Sei tanto giovane e avrai altre mille idee in testa: puoi svelarci qualcosa in anteprima?

I pittori sono imprevedibili, a volte, perciò spero di potervi stupire al più presto.

De Lente van de kunst – the spring of art

De Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde, met haar Italiaanse kunstenaars, werkt weer met veel plezier samen met het Kunstcafe in Appelscha om het beste van de hedendaagse kunst op de markt aan te bieden. Evenals de vorige wintertentoonstelling beoogt de groepstentoonstelling in het voorjaar een poëtisch-artistieke dialoog tussen Italië en Nederland tot stand te brengen: de klanten van het café krijgen de gelegenheid om niet alleen geestelijk, maar ook lichamelijk een uniek en niet te evenaren kunstwerk voor een betaalbare prijs mee naar huis te nemen.

De tentoongestelde werken zijn bedoeld om de impliciete allegorie van de lente te vieren. Wie door de zalen van het Kunstcafe loopt, zal dus niet overweldigd worden door de natuurlijke kleurenexplosie van bloemen (dat zou een weinig avontuurlijke associatie zijn), maar door boodschappen van wedergeboorte, hoop, een nieuw begin en nieuwe gezichtspunten en perspectieven voor de toekomst. Hoewel we worden overspoeld met nieuws dat de aangenaamste tijd van het jaar tempert, geeft de lente ons de gelegenheid om na te denken en nieuwe lucht in te ademen, een lucht van positieve verandering die kunstenaars weten over te brengen door hun kleuren, idealen en thema’s. Met hun werken geven de kunstenaars de kijkers een extra zetje om uit de winterslaap te komen: er is altijd een andere manier om te leven en het leven waar te nemen en er is altijd een nieuwe dag om opnieuw geboren te worden en een idee te hebben dat iemands bestaan zou kunnen veranderen.

De tentoongestelde kunstenaars en werken zijn zeer gevarieerd en kunnen voldoen aan de meest uiteenlopende artistieke voorkeuren. Zij variëren van de abstracte kunst van Ilaria Sperotto, die u meeneemt op een reis door innerlijke landschappen waarin kleur stem geeft aan de ziel; tot de kunst van het Magisch Realisme van Maurizio Brambilla waarin symbolische boodschappen worden tentoongesteld in doeken die worden gekenmerkt door een elegant en chique kleurenpalet. De tentoonstelling gaat verder met de expressionistische kunst van Gianluca Somaschi, vol met druppels van Pollokiaanse oorsprong, en de realistische kunst van Gianluca Cremonesi waarin golven synoniem zijn met voortdurende verandering. Verder is er de materiele kunst van Giulio Pettinato, de romantisch-impressionistische kunst van Susanna Maccari en de surrealistische kunst van Giuliano Giuggioli, die met beelden speelt om de geest van de hedendaagse mens wakker te schudden.

Speciale gasten uit Italië, twee jonge kunstenaars die nog niet zijn opgenomen in het door Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde gesteunde project Contemporary Italian Art in Holland: Camelia Rostom die het publiek zal fascineren met haar abstracte materiaalwerken en haar olieverfschilderijen waarin de rode draad de dirigent is van liefde en lotsbestemming; en Luca Azzurro die met zijn hoogspanningsmasten vol symbolisch expressionisme leert om andere perspectieven te hebben en met een positieve geest naar de toekomst te kijken.

The Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde, with its Italian artists, is once again working with great pleasure with the Kunstcafe in Appelscha to offer the best of contemporary art on the market. As in the previous winter exhibition, the art on display in the spring group show aims to create a poetic-artistic dialogue between Italy and the Netherlands: the café’s patrons will have the opportunity to take home not only spiritually, but also physically, a unique and unrepeatable piece of art at an affordable price.

The works on display are intended to celebrate the implicit allegory of spring. Those who walk through the rooms of the Kunstcafe will not, therefore, be overwhelmed by the natural colour explosion of flowers (this would be an unadventurous association) but by messages of rebirth, hope, new beginnings and new points of view and perspectives for the future. Although we are bombarded by news that dampens the most pleasant time of the year, spring gives us the opportunity to think and breathe new air, an air of positive change that artists know how to convey through their colours, ideals and themes. With their works, the artists give viewers an extra gear to come out of winter hibernation: there is always another possible way to live and perceive life and, there is always a new day to be born again and to have the idea that could change one’s existence.

The artists and works on display are really varied and can satisfy the most diverse artistic preferences. They range from the abstract art of Ilaria Sperotto, who will take you on a journey through interior landscapes in which colour gives voice to the soul; to the art of Magic Realism of Maurizio Brambilla in which symbolic messages are exhibited in canvases characterised by an elegant and chic colour palette. The exhibition continues with the expressionistic art of Gianluca Somaschi, full of drips of Pollokian origin, and the realist art of Gianluca Cremonesi in which waves are synonymous with constant change. There is also the material art of Giulio Pettinato, the romantic impressionistic art of Susanna Maccari and the surreal art of Giuliano Giuggioli, who plays with images to awaken the spirit of contemporary man. Special guests from Italy, two young artists not yet included in the Contemporary Italian Art in Holland project supported by Manzoni Kunst Galerie in Oosterwolde: Camelia Rostom who will fascinate the public with her abstract material works and her oil paintings in which the red thread is the conductor of love and destiny; and Luca Azzurro who, with his high voltage pylons full of symbolic expressionism, teaches to have different perspectives and to look at the future with a positive spirit.

The exhibition De Lente van de kunst will be held in the rooms of the Kunstcafe from 18 March to 22 May 2022.
